Arrival

Hi Everyone,

My name is K2, and I have just begun my journey as a JET Programme ALT in Japan.  I started this blog to share information and to keep friends and family updated about life in Japan.  Although I have been to Japan before, it was for a brief 2-week period.  This is my first true abroad experience as a working member of society versus as a college tourist.

I have received numerous requests for pictures and updates from family, so I hope to fulfill their wishes.  For now I want to share after a long but smooth flight, we have arrived safely in Tokyo and are commencing busily with the Tokyo Orientation.  Any free time they promised us has turned out to be a fallacy that is quickly eaten up with more "not-really-mandatory-but-still-completely-mandatory" events.  I just hope no one collapses from exhaustion during any of these proceedings.  I almost fell over in the hall because I was so fatigued as I waited for the elevator to the banquet.  Never before has the ground been so determined to uproot my usual routine of walking upright on my feet.  But it will all be over soon, and all new JETs will depart for their individual assignments on Wednesday morning!  I excitedly await the trip to my home city, Tome(登米市).

So far, I have only snapped three pictures on my iPhone.  These are the view from my hotel room this morning on the 26th floor of the Keio Plaza Hotel in Shinjuku.  More to follow!

Without much experience blogging, I hope to write concise and relevant material.  I have never before written a blog, nor have I taken the time to read more than the occasional entry of a friend, but I will take this opportunity to share a piece of Japan with others through the use of technology.  Enjoy!
