Night in Shibuya

This post is a little late, but here are some pictures of the big city of Shibuya!  These pictures are from when we went out with fellow Miyagi JETs and our Prefectural Advisor after Tokyo Orientation finally finished for the day.  Our PA is super cool, and he took us to his favorite restaurant in Shibuya that overlooks the crazy big intersection often seen on tv!

This is the view looking down at all the people and cars!  And you can see our table with edamame and hand towel.  We got to sit right by the window!

Here's the same view but looking up at the building across from us.  There's a cool pedestrian bridge that connects the upper floors of that building to the train station on the left side of the picture.  Also, you can see the English school that I also applied for, AEON's dark blue sign on the left of the building just above the pedestrian bridge!

The restaurant we went to had some funny drink specials!  One was named after the popular AKB 48 group, one drink was A, one K, one B.  I had K!  They were different colors and flavors, but we forgot to get a picture until we'd already finished them!  I think mine was light blue with a slight ramune flavor.

Here's the view of that same intersection from standing on the sidewalk facing away from the train station.  The restaurant we ate at is on the 3rd floor of the building on the left of the picture.

These are the "Tanabata" decorations, Tanabata being a holiday of Japanese lore where you tie your wishes to bamboo branches on a piece of paper, and revolves around the story of two lovers who only get to see each other once a year.  The story and celebrations actually originated in my prefecture!  Many of the more elaborate decorations, like these orbs with streamers attached, are pretty!  This picture turned out a little bit dark, but you can still make out the decorations and the bamboo they're hanging from.

We met up with another Miyagi JET after dinner, and he showed us this band having a concert on the street corner he discovered earlier.  They were fun to watch and were handing out promo CDs.  The sound quality was quite the experience, just like all the starting-out bands that use little practice amps!  I'm sure they have better equipment, but probably left it at home for this particular night.

After checking out the band's closing tune and demanding an encore, we headed to a bar where we proceeded to make fun of the guys for wearing Coors Light Bootle-opener necklaces!  If I get their permission, I'll post a picture.  It was quite the sight.

And that was our night in Shibuya!  Enjoy!
